A Checklist of Things You Will Need for Your Alaska Trip
Alaska is an unforgettable vacation destination as it is a great place to see the various wildlife, Northern lights as well as learn more about the ancient cultures that give the state its character. And although an Alaskan vacation makes for a unique and memorable experience, it can be challenging dealing with the extreme temperatures and the long days with or without sun. Therefore, you will want to pack carefully to make sure that you have what you need to make your trip as enjoyable as possible. Bearing that in mind, here are some essentials you will want to make sure that you have in your suitcase.
Layers
Some people may choose to bring one warm jacket to wear during their Alaska stay. However, the weather will heat up as the day goes on. Therefore, most think it’s best to bring several layers that you can take off as the temperature starts to rise. Some layers you may want to include are a light down jacket, a sweatshirt and a rain trench which will come in handy especially during Alaska’s rainy season. Thermals are also useful as they stay cozy and are easy to pack which makes them great for the colder months.
Footwear
Start off with a good pair of moisture wicking socks. These will be ideal for keeping feet dry during rain or if there is snow on the ground. For shoes, many recommend a pair of sturdy, waterproof hiking boots which will not only keep your feet warm but help you walk comfortably in the rough terrain. Certain athletic sneakers can also do the trick.
Other Accessories
Although good jackets and footwear will keep your torso and feet nice and warm, there are other body parts you will need to consider as well. Be sure to include hats, gloves, scarfs and earmuffs so that your extremities don’t freeze and heat doesn’t escape from your head and other parts of your body. Depending on the time of year you are visiting in, you may be seeing a lot of sunlight or you may be seeing very little. If you are going to be dealing with a midnight sun, be sure to pack an eye mask that can help you sleep no matter how light it may be outside. Sunglasses will also be helpful, especially during those days when the sun is out 24/7. When strolling around Alaska, it’s a good idea to be prepared for any adventure that may come your way. For that reason, it’s best to bring a day pack that you can use to carry essentials around with you like a camera, water, snacks and any other items you just can’t go without.
Alaska is a destination experience you won’t soon forget. Smart packing will ensure you will be prepared for whatever your travels throw at you during your trip. What will you be including in your luggage?
